Why should I buy a car from abroad?

The used-car market across the EU is larger and often offers better prices plus a wider selection of models and equipment variants.

Can I handle the import myself?

In theory yes, but mistakes can put the import at risk. Based on our experience, we recommend having our team handle the import.

Which vehicles can be imported?

All EU vehicles with a valid COC certificate can be imported: cars, estates, SUVs, sports cars and electric vehicles.

From which countries can vehicles be imported?

Vehicles can be imported from all EU countries, mainly Germany because of market size and prices, but also Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and others.

What costs arise during import?

Import costs consist of several factors:

  • NoVA (Austrian standard consumption tax)
  • Official documents
  • Insured transport
  • Handling fee by Autohaus Zwer
  • Optional: vehicle inspection before purchase

How is NoVA calculated?

It depends on first registration, CO2 emissions, consumption, vehicle price and other parameters. Our cost calculator provides full transparency. You can also compare the values with the official NoVA calculator of the Austrian Ministry of Finance .

How do I pay for the vehicle?

You pay the vehicle price directly to the dealer. For our services such as transport, NoVA handling and authority procedures, you receive a separate invoice from Autohaus Zwer.

Are there hidden costs?

No, there are no hidden costs. All amounts are disclosed in advance. Any deviations are balanced through a recalculation or credit note.

Safety & protection

Is there a warranty on imported vehicles?

The warranty and/or statutory warranty agreed in the purchase contract with the dealer applies. Autohaus Zwer guarantees proper import handling.

What happens if the vehicle has defects?

We recommend buying only from reputable dealers so your statutory warranty is protected. On request, an independent inspection can be carried out before purchase.

Can I inspect the vehicle before purchase?

Yes, an inspection at the dealer or by video is possible. An independent inspection can also be arranged optionally.

What is a vehicle report and do I need one?

A vehicle report is a detailed technical inspection by an independent expert. It is not mandatory, but is especially recommended for higher-value vehicles.

How does the purchase work?

You instruct Autohaus Zwer to handle your vehicle purchase and issue us a power of attorney. We take care of the purchase contract, import formalities and safe transport.

How long does the import process take?

Delivery time depends on the dealer, general importer, authorities and carrier. Overall, you can expect a delivery time of 2-4 weeks.

Do I have to travel abroad myself?

No, we handle the complete process from purchase contract to delivery ready for registration.

Transport & delivery

Is transport insured?

Yes, we only work with professional Austrian carriers whose services include full transport insurance.

What happens if there is an accident during transport?

All transports are fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage, our carrier partner's transport insurance applies and we support the handling process.

What is the difference between standard and express transport?

Standard transport follows a planned route and is cheaper. Express transport is a prioritized direct delivery that is faster but costs more.
